Business Culture - A Sketch

A few swiftly collected thoughts

Everything is easy & fun
- everything “hard” can be broken down into easy, logical steps, every step can be enjoyed as we knock it out of the park. It’s only business, nobody's life is at stake, let’s enjoy the game. There’s no reason we can’t win at this.

It should just make sense
- if it’s not completely obvious, it should be made better. Clarity is king.

Do not allow stupidity to perpetuate
- no matter how (or with whom) it originated, nothing is precious. It’s only business. If you work out it shouldn’t be done, it should be changed or stopped. Mistakes will be made, but we don’t need to keep making the same ones. Let’s enjoy the game.

Always know why you’re doing anything
- so you can tell sense from stupidity. Clarity is king. If it doesn’t make sense, you either need to find out more, or, if it (still) truly doesn’t make sense, change what you’re doing.

Act according to priorities
- put first things first. This means we have to be ok with things that aren’t priorities not being done right now.

It’s us against the problem, not us against each other
- don’t let ego get in the way of overall success. An ego because you’re the best in the business is fine - happy to hear you’re the best. An ego (or fear, or insecurity) that micromanages, or gets in the way of needed changes actually diminishes overall success, & therefore is not really the best. Look at the big picture. There should be no reason we can’t win at this.
